About us

EFM was set up, by former teacher Steve Clyne in April 1990 originally to provide premises management expertise for schools operating under the Education Reform Act 1988 and subsequent legislation (Local Management of Schools).

Our core businesses are running schools, college sites and advising others about schools and school place provision. The core business keeps us focussed and roots our consultancy services in current good practice.

Largely through recommendation and reputation, the client base has broadened to include other sectors. EFM acts as both FM consultants and FM managers. It is also Health & Safety Adviser and Next Friend to its core client base.

Since 1990 EFM has worked for schools, LEAs and others providing a wide range of consultancy advice and project management, including the procurement of new buildings, estate rationalisation, disposals and site development as well as the management of the sites, the staff and the contracts of its core school clients.

Bearing in mind the structural changes in state funded education in the last twenty two years it is a period of time that has seen not only local management but CTCs; Grant Maintained Schools; Community Schools; Foundation Schools; PFI schools and a massive increase in the number of Academies. If anything the pace of change is growing with Free Schools and UTCs in ever increasing numbers.

EFM has been at the forefront of this change engaging with Local Authorities and the Department for Education to win the best deal for its client schools.
